Thumbnl vs Pikzels: a real frame from your video, or a thumbnail generated from a prompt.
Short version: Pikzels generates thumbnails with AI from a text prompt, can put your face into scenes you never filmed, and writes titles. Thumbnl builds thumbnails only from a real frame of your own video, in 16:9 and 9:16 at once, and scores them at phone feed size. If you need an image of something you did not film, Pikzels is the better tool. If the thumbnail should be a real moment from your video, Thumbnl is built for that.

When Pikzels is the better choice
- You need an image you did not film. A concept, an exaggerated scene, you standing somewhere you have never been. Thumbnl cannot do this at all; it only uses your real frames.
- Your footage has no usable frame. Screen recordings, voice-over videos, or dark, blurry shoots. Generation starts from nothing, so a weak video does not hold it back.
- You want titles too. Pikzels writes titles to match the thumbnail. Thumbnl does not write titles.
- You want to copy a format that already works. Pikzels can recreate a thumbnail format from a YouTube link.
- Sheer volume. By Pikzels' own estimate, Premium covers about 1,800 thumbnails a year. Thumbnl Creator covers 30 videos a month, 360 a year, with three designs each.
When Thumbnl is the better choice
- The thumbnail has to be you, exactly. Every Thumbnl thumbnail is a real frame, so the face is never a likeness that drifts from video to video, and what the thumbnail promises is really in the video.
- You post Shorts as well as long videos. Every design comes in 16:9 and 9:16 in the same pass. We did not see 9:16 or Shorts mentioned on the Pikzels pages we read.
- You do not want to count credits. Thumbnl counts videos, and edits to a finished card are free.
- You want to see it on your own footage first. Try it without signing in, then your first video is free with both sizes to download.
Can you use both?
Yes. Some creators generate concept thumbnails for idea videos and use real frames for everything else. Either way, you can check any thumbnail, from any tool, at phone feed size with the free checker.
