Looking for a Pikzels alternative? Here is when switching makes sense, and when it does not.
Short version: Pikzels generates thumbnails with AI from a prompt and can put your face into scenes you never filmed. If that is what you want, stay with Pikzels; it does it at a volume nothing on this page matches. If you want the thumbnail to be a real moment from your own video, in both YouTube and Shorts sizes, that is the gap Thumbnl fills.
This page is written by Thumbnl, so read it knowing that. Everything about other tools below comes from their own pages as they read on October 1, 2026, listed under Sources. Prices and features change; check their site before you buy.
What Pikzels does, in its own words
- Prompt to thumbnail. "Describe your idea in one prompt. Pikzels turns it into ready-to-test thumbnails in seconds."
- Persona. "Upload 3 photos of yourself once" and use that likeness across thumbnails without new photo shoots.
- Recreate. Paste a YouTube link and it recreates that thumbnail's format.
- Titles and a score. It writes titles and rates a thumbnail on Virality, Clarity, Idea, Curiosity and Emotion.
- Price. Premium $40 a month or $336 a year with 18,000 credits a year; Ultimate $80 a month or $672 a year with 54,000. A thumbnail costs 10 to 20 credits, so Pikzels estimates up to 1,800 and 5,400 thumbnails a year.

Stay with Pikzels if
- You need an image you did not film: a concept, a scene, you somewhere you have never been. Thumbnl cannot do that at all.
- Your videos are screen recordings or voice-over with no usable frame of a person or object.
- You want titles written for you, or want to copy a format from a YouTube link.
- You make far more thumbnails than videos, testing many ideas per upload.
Switch to Thumbnl if
- The thumbnail has to be really you. Every Thumbnl thumbnail is a real frame from the video, so the face matches the video every time and the thumbnail never promises something the video does not show.
- You post Shorts too. Every design comes out in 16:9 and 9:16 in the same pass.
- You would rather count videos than credits. Edits to a finished card (flip, color, font, text size, words) and extra deals do not count against your month.
- You want to see it on your own footage first. Try it on the home page without signing in.
Consider Thumbmagic if
You want thumbnails made from your video but with templates, AI edits to expressions, a YouTube link instead of a file, or a money-back guarantee. On yearly billing it gives more thumbnails per dollar than Thumbnl. We wrote a full page on it: Thumbmagic alternative. You can also read our earlier side by side: Thumbnl vs Pikzels.

Open the free checkerCommon questions
Is Thumbnl cheaper than Pikzels?
Per month it is about the same: Thumbnl Creator is $39 and Pikzels Premium is $40, as shown on October 1, 2026. Per year Thumbnl Creator is $279 and Pikzels Premium is $336. Pikzels covers far more thumbnails, up to about 1,800 a year by its own estimate, while Thumbnl Creator covers 30 videos a month with three designs each.
Can Thumbnl put my face in a scene I did not film, like a Pikzels Persona?
No. Thumbnl only uses real frames from your own video. It cuts the subject out and builds the design around it, but it never generates a face or a scene. If you need that, Pikzels is the better tool.
Does Thumbnl make Shorts thumbnails?
Yes. Every design comes out at 1920x1080 for YouTube and 1080x1920 for Shorts in the same pass.
Can I try Thumbnl before paying?
Yes. Try it on the home page without signing in, then sign in with Google and your first video is free, watermarked, with both sizes to download. All payments after that are final, so try it first.
